Several years ago I answered yes to some of these questions and didn’t believe that it would be possible to change any of them.  I had lived with some of them for many years and thought that I would never be able to travel on an airplane comfortably, stop smoking or repair a damaged relationship. 


At a job one day I was telling the makeup artist that I wanted to stop smoking and she gave me the number of an NLP Master Practitioner and Hypnotherapist who she said could help me kick the habit.  I took the card from her and smiled never intending to see the therapist.  Anyway, what was NLP and why should that work?  I had seen hypnotists on TV and would never allow anyone to take control of my mind and make me do things I didn’t want to do.  Several weeks later I found his card at the bottom of my handbag and called him.  It took weeks to get an appointment and when the day finally arrived I entered with trepidation not believing that any of this would work.  I sat in a chair and he started asking me questions, things that I had never been asked by anyone else and questions I certainly hadn’t ask myself!  His questions weren’t even about my problem but my mind began to shift and see things differently.  He then talked to me and I drifted off into a deep state of relaxation whereby I could hear and feel everything but hadn’t felt this relaxed for years.


The whole session took about 90 minutes and I felt refreshed and a bit weird and in the days and weeks after that session I began to see things from a different perspective.  The following month I had a flight to the USA but the night before I didn’t get my usual pre-flight nerves, sweaty palms, upset stomach and good old anxiety attack.  I had a great flight for the first time in many years and relaxed, read a book, watched films and actually ate the airplane food!  Could it be that NLP and Hypnotherapy did work? 


I had one more session with the therapist a couple weeks later and we cleared up a lot of things that had been holding me back and I learned how to process anxieties, rejections and fears with the tools and techniques that he taught me.  Life became easier and less stressful.  I let go of negative thoughts and situations more quickly and generally felt more confident and in control of my own thoughts and decisions.  I was so impressed with the speed and thoroughness of this therapy - it didn’t take years to clear up a problem, that I decided to look into studying NLP and Hypnotherapy myself and embarked on 5 years of study with Dr Richard Bandler, the co-creator of NLP, and Paul McKenna, who now uses his hypnosis skills to help large groups of people change their lives, lose weight and feel more confident.


I now assist Dr Bandler and Paul McKenna when they present their courses and I see clients at my Harley Street Practice.
